Arizona State University | Capital Center Phase 1+2

Location: Phoenix Arizona

Completion: 04/04

Size: 1.8M sf

Architekton, along with three other local architectural practices, was hired to create a conceptual master plan for the new downtown ASU campus. Architekton's vision was to strategically weave a new campus for 15,000 students and 8,000 faculty/staff members within the existing fabric of downtown Phoenix along Central and 1st Avenues. Mixed-use buildings and planning strategies blend university and city functions. The scheme creates a web of east/west connections by incorporating narrower streets, a variety of courtyards, plazas, parks and quads, and iconic buildings as bridges. The concept takes advantage of proposed light rail stations and transforms the central corridor between the Deck Park and downtown business district into a vital "boulevard" worthy of one the Nation’s largest cities.
