The new 90,000 sf complex is comprised of Fire Administration, Police Administration & Patrol, Courts, Broadcast Center, and a Public Safety Training Facility. The project was conceived as a collection of individual buildings, collaged to create a pedestrian friendly street edge for the community's new civic complex. A simple palette of stone, stucco and terra cotta are used in contemporary forms and juxtapositions creating a unique architectural identity for the City of Surprise. Deep porches, overhangs and loggias transition the building to its site and protect pedestrians and the interiors from the harsh desert sun. A series of internal courtyards are distributed throughout to bring natural daylight into the facility.
