The Southwest Valley Regional YMCA is a 30,000 sf project that is directly associated and integrated with a high school pool facility in the City of Goodyear. The unique, irregular site is bounded by required street setbacks on the south and west and a fiber optics easement along the east. This led to a series of rotated, interlocking volumes, creating a playful composition of color, light and shadow. The simple forms are carefully perforated and undercut for views, access and shaded program space. At the street intersection, a blue glass volume is wrapped by a rotated larger envelope creating deep porches and patios. An abstracted YMCA logo and other penetrations, perforates the volume and reveals the blue crystal within. The facility is part of the Valley of the Sun YMCA program.
