Situated within the larger agricultural context of Colorado’s San Luis Basin, a small operations building will service a new 19 megawatt “solar farm.” From the highway the building sits into the landscape, immersed in a field of photovoltaic panels, its peaked roof another crest on the mountainous horizon. Wrapped in a taught metal skin, the building’s sculpted geometric form takes on an ambiguous sense of scale, shifting with perspective and its relationship to the field. Inside, programs radiate from a central conference space, with glazed walls maximizing available daylight and passive solar heating.
