John Williams wins Architecture Institute's Kachina Award

The American Institute of Architects Arizona Chapter handed out its annual awards Sept. 25 at the Phoenix Art Museum with John R. Williams, senior project manager at Architekton, receiving The Kachina Award.
The Kachina Award, which recognizes contributions for the betterment of the Arizona community and the advancement of the profession of architecture, has been given only four times previously. Williams has a 30-year career that includes a long tenure at RSP Architects.
Top design awards went to Will Bruder & Partners, Phoenix, for the Agave Library in north Phoenix; Richard & Bauer, Phoenix, for Scottsdale Community College Natural Science Building; Peter Koliopoulos, Scottsdale, for Desert House; Weddle Gilmore, Scottsdale, for Back Rock Studio; Architekton and Otak, Tempe, for Tempe Transportation Center; and Studio Ma, Phoenix, for the Yuma Heritage Library.
Other individual honors included Architects Medals won by Mark Roddy, a design principal at SmithGroup in Phoenix, and Henry Tom, principal of Line and Space in Tucson.
Other awards were: 25-Year Award for a building of enduring value to the Arizona State University Hiram Bradford Farmer Education Building in Tempe; Affiliate Award to Stuckey Insurance in Phoenix; Award of Distinction to Alison King of Modern Phoenix in Phoenix; Contractor Award to Haydon Building Corp. in Phoenix; Educator Award to Darren Petrucci, director of the school of architecture and landscape architecture at ASU; and Patron Award to Michael Green of Fennemore Craig PC in Phoenix.
The Kemper Goodwin Award, which recognizes collaborative efforts of a architect, contractor and owner, went to two projects: ASU Memorial Union renovation in Tempe and Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts in Scottsdale.
