CENTRAL NEW MEXICO COMMUNITY COLLEGE | TED CHAVEZ TRADES AND TECHNOLOGIES CENTER

Location: Albuquerque, NM

Completion: 09/25

Size: 70,000 sf

“Make trades sexy again!” This charge from the Dean inspired a trades facility that celebrates the construction industry at every scale. The CNM Community College Ted Chavez Trades and Technologies Center incorporates display plinths for construction mock-ups and material research, creating an exterior plaza for school and industry events. Inside, an art wall highlights the history of tools, honoring the craftsmanship of the past, while corridors showcase construction techniques, new technologies, and student projects. The building itself celebrates infrastructure, with color-coded systems visible throughout the ceiling and traditionally hidden spaces like electrical rooms showcased behind colored glass. Standard materials are elevated through thoughtful design, emphasizing the value of architecture for builders and fostering a healthier, more beautiful built environment.
