This interior renovation reimagines a 25,000-square-foot community facility as a place of dignity, clarity, and joy. Originally built in 1992, the building’s interiors no longer reflected the vitality of the programs or the people it serves. With a limited budget and a deeply human mission, the project focused on targeted interior interventions that prioritize accessibility, intuitive circulation, and light.
Designed to support individuals with disabilities, the layout was refined to eliminate dead ends, reduce confusion, and create an environment that feels welcoming and calm rather than institutional. Previously hidden spaces such as training rooms, a snack shack, and a boutique were brought forward as visible, celebrated areas that support real-world skill building and community engagement.
Durable materials, improved ceiling systems, and energy-efficient lighting enhance comfort and clarity, allowing the architecture itself to guide movement and interaction. The result is an interior that empowers its users and reflects the dignity of the work within.
