gila river indian community public safety facility

Location: Sacaton, AZ

Completion: 05/2024

Size: 62,000 sf

The new administration building was designed to celebrate and honor the community that the officers and staff serve. It includes a main building housing dispatch, evidence storage, locker rooms, a fitness area, and a community room. Additionally, a support building features a vehicle bay, vehicle inspection, and K-9 kennels with indoor and outdoor space for the dogs. The project was developed in collaboration with community representatives to create a minimalist aesthetic that blends with the natural surroundings. The building features split-face blocks and rusted steel to reflect the nearby mountains and desert landscape. It incorporates historical and native elements, such as medallions representing the seven districts of the GRIC tribe, a shade structure, a healing garden, and outdoor spaces for community gatherings and reflection.

The design, developed collaboratively with stakeholders, embraces minimalism and harmony with the landscape.
