City of Tucson Midtown Multi-Service Center

Location: Tucson Arizona

Completion: 01/04

Size: 48,000 sf

The City had a full complement police station-community center program but a site that flooded twice a year with 2’ of water washing across it at a high velocity. Architekton designed the 48,000 sf Center, in association with GLHN, as an elevated rectangular box building behind a protective wall designed to funnel the water away from the police and public functions. The wall protected the police from the water and peering eyes from a major thoroughfare. Elevating the building kept it out of the water and provided covered parking for the patrol and SWAT vehicles and expensive equipment.
